You fix the headline. You add the skill. You flip on Open to Work. Your profile starts showing up in searches. And still, nothing lands in your inbox, while someone with a background close enough to yours that you could swap resumes gets the message.

Last week LinkedIn gave that gap a name. At its Talent Connect event, the company shipped Hiring Assistant 2, the second version of its recruiting agent, and the load-bearing upgrade is memory. Here is how LinkedIn explained it in their own words: in the past a recruiter asked the assistant for a product management candidate and got one. Now the assistant returns a product management candidate who is close to the office, in the retail industry, at mid-level, because those are all the things that recruiter has hired for before.

Read that twice. The filter is no longer the posting. The filter is the recruiter's track record. More than 20,000 companies now use LinkedIn's agentic hiring tools, and LinkedIn reports recruiters are four times more likely to contact a candidate the assistant surfaced than one found the old way. Being surfaced is most of the game.

The spec you have been writing to is the job description. The spec that matters is a pattern nobody published. Today is about reverse-engineering it anyway, plus four other signals this release just made load-bearing.

Read the team, not the posting

The posting tells you what the role needs. The hiring history tells you what this recruiter actually buys. Those are different documents, and only one of them is driving your ranking.

Spend ten minutes before you apply. Go to the company page, open the People tab, and filter to the function you are targeting. Sort for people who joined in the last year. You are looking for three things the memory layer explicitly weights: what level they came in at, what industry they came from, and where they sit geographically. Three or four recent hires is enough to see the shape.

Then do the honest math. If every recent hire came out of healthcare and you are coming from logistics, you are not a bad candidate, you are an off-pattern candidate, and the agent will never make that argument for you. So you make it. One line in your note that names the bridge: what transfers, and why. Off-pattern candidates who do not explain themselves do not get explained.

Your responsiveness is now a visible field

This is the single most actionable thing in the release. Hiring Assistant 2 shows recruiters an indicator of how receptive a candidate is likely to be, built from platform engagement, Open to Work details, and InMail responsiveness.

So your dead inbox is not neutral. It is data. Every recruiter message you left on read taught the system that reaching out to you is a poor use of a slot, and the next recruiter sees a weaker receptiveness read before they ever decide to write.

The fix costs you ninety seconds. Answer every recruiter InMail, including, especially, the ones you do not want. A polite decline is a response.

❝

"Thanks for reaching out, [Name]. This one is not a fit for me, I am focused on [role type] roles in [industry or market]. Happy to stay in touch if something closer to that comes up."

That reply does two jobs. It keeps your responsiveness signal healthy, and it tells a real human what to send you next.

Verification stopped being a fraud check

LinkedIn is now pulling trust signals, verifications included, directly into what the assistant surfaces to recruiters. That is a different function than it had a year ago. Verification used to be about proving you were not a bot. Now it is an input into whether you get shown at all.

Go to Settings, then Verifications, and clear every one available to you: identity, workplace email, educational email. It takes a few minutes once, and it carries forward. In a pool where the agent weights trust, an unverified profile carries a discount for no reason.

Your agents work while you sleep

Give a Skydive agent an ongoing responsibility and they’ll handle it on schedule, every time.

Have them prep your morning report, research new leads, monitor customer feedback, or keep projects moving overnight. You wake up, the work is already done.

Wire your outside proof into the profile

The release also expanded connected apps listings, which exist so you can demonstrate what you can actually do in systems outside LinkedIn.

Most people keep their real evidence somewhere else. The repo. The design portfolio. The credential on the issuer's site. If that proof is not connected, it is invisible to a tool reading your profile as structured data.

Connect what you have, then make sure your skills section matches it. A skill with evidence attached and a skill you typed in are not scored the same way.

Fix your location field today

LinkedIn's own example of the memory upgrade led with proximity: a candidate close to the office. Location is not a soft preference inside these tools. It is a filter.

If your location field is blank, stale, or set to something vague like "United States," you are dropping out of searches you would otherwise clear. Set it to the metro you would genuinely show up in. If you are open to relocating, say so in your About section, because the field alone cannot express intent.
